DIY - How to have the coolest birthday partaay ever!

Hello my chummies, yesterday was my birthday partaay, so this post is disguised as a DIY but it's really just me rambling about the awesomeness of my party. So, step one - give your party a THEME! Mine was film-themed, which was really good, because it meant we could do fancy dress e.t.c - everyone came dressed as film characters! Here is a photo of us all:
And oui, I kept everyone anonymoose/anonymouse/anontimus with flowers and buttons, which could be either awesome or creepy, I can't decide. Most people don't have blogs, but the peeps who do are: Hannah, top row third from left (Cinderella in rags), Hollie, far right on top row (Dorothy), Lois, in fron of Dorothy (Alice in Wonderland), Bronia, the rows get a bit confused here, but she's wearing a red cape ***which she made*** (Little Red Riding Hood), and uhh...me, near the front, with blazer/umbrella/black stuff - I was Mary Poppins! So yeah, it was really fun dressing up! Step two - decor. I don't know if it paid off or not, but I spent SOOO LONG labouring over the table arrangement! Stupidly, I didn't take a picture of it, but I'll try and describe it for you - the tablecloths were all gorgy emboidered thingies, and on them I'd filled jam-jars with lavendar, put out mini purple candles, and cut teenie-weenie little hearts out of book paper! I was muy pleased with the overall look. Step 3 - Entertainment!

Since it was a film party, we watched a..you guessed it...FILM! the film we settled on was The Princess bride, which if you don't know it is a wonderfully awesome fairytale-style film, which (among other things) involves a princess called Buttercup, and a very dishy lover called Wesley!
The other thing we did for entertainment was a tweasure hunt around the village, with film-trivia questions built in. I think that went really well, and got everyone moving/thinking - and we certainly weirded out the locals! As we were driving back after the party, I got all emotional and sentimental, and decided that 'Friends are what matter.' If that wasn't enough sentimentality, I'll leave you with a couple of making-me-cry Winnie The Pooh friendship quotes - toodles!

The world through this lens is magical indeed!

The person writing this is someone who has survived her first two weeks of year 10! I am very proud of this fact, but that's not the subject of this post. Now, the thing I will be telling all ye fine folk about today is this: I have a new camrea! It's not a digital SLR (sadly), but that hasn't stopped me falling madly, and I mean MADLY, in love. It looks like this:
Yesterday, Bronia and took ourselves over to Chatsworth (For those of you who don't know it is a massive old house where the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire live, and it has a gorgy garden.), and I decided that it would be the perfect place to test out my camera.
(It has about a gazillion modes - this is it on 'food mode'!)
When we got to Chatsworth the first thing we saw was this fantsticly gorgy meadow of wild flowers, so we spent about an hour taking photos of them all - I'm just gonna bombard you with photos! (Hmm...I said gonna. Is that worrying?)

And there are many more...

Then we climbed up on top of these massive rocks and got stared at...but we didn't notice, we were too busy surveying our kingdom!

This was a gorgy little tunnel to the fairy world...

This picture makes me laugh so much! The camera has loads of funny things you can play around with, and one of them is Reflection Mode, so here is my bestie Bronia, hopelessly reflected!
This is the'classic' view of Chatsworth, down past the Emperor Fountain.

I relise this picture is of nothing interesting whatsoever, but I just think it looks nice! So, yeah, that was basically my day yesterday! I had a great time, and I think my camera SHONE.

Summer is gone and the days grow cold.

Every morning I trip down the hill in my rad shoes, and as I do so I notice that it's grown a little chillier. Gone are the loveliest days of my life (This summer) and arrived are the sad, grey, bleak days that fill the space in between. (I would like to add that my friends mock me for wearing a vest, but I think it's extremely sensible!) This is the kind of bleak winter vibe I'm feeling right now:

Do you see what I mean? Anyway, since that has really got me down, I thought I'd take a photographic look back at some of the lovely things I did this summer!
1. I went on holiday, to the Black Forest in germany.

So, yeah, that was sunny Germany! Now, I have the most epic friendlies in the world, so I did far too many meet-ups with them to put on here, and also I've discovered my computer seems to have lost all of the photos of me and my chummies, BUT they do exist and I will try and find them! We just went out and skipped and hopped around quite a lot. We're so snazzy. So, the moral of this post (Oooh - it's got a moral!) is that even though Winter can seem a tad boring and grey and depressing, there is a light at the end of the tunnell, and we will pull through. (Exciting fact of the day - my birthday party is in ten days!)

What Maisie Knew.

A trip to the cinema is always exciting, especially for one who doesn't really get out much (Me)! Last night my parentals took me out to see the big screen, at the Ritz, in Belper. It was grrrreat fun, not only because the Ritz is a swanky (Hahaha! Swanky!) place, but because the film was brillig!
It tells the story of Maisie, (Onata Aprile) a six year old who is being fought over by her selfish and shallow parents. Her mum (Julianne Moore) is an ageing rock star, and her dad (Steve Coogan) is some kind of boring business man. She also has a nanny, called Margo (Joanna Vanderham), who evidently loves her more than her mum, and a step-father called Lincoln (Alexander Skarsgard), who evidently loves her more than her dad. These two, Margo and Lincoln, become her kind of 'real' family, and it's just a lovely story. the only downside to it is that it is somewhat predictable - you knew the ending from about half way through, but I like happy endings, so it suited me down to the ground. Onate Aprile, who plays Maisie, is a stunning child actress. I especially loved Maisie's quirky style - she has this gorgy little material embroidered crown! It seems impossibly to get a good picture of this crown, but I am trying to figure out a DIY for it!
Maisie (Complete with crown) with step-father Lincoln.
Maisie's dad, and nanny Margo.
Maisie (Complete with crown) with her mum, who wears quite a lot of leopard print.
I really enjoyed this film, even if it was predictable, and I strongly urge everyone to go and see it! And just a moral point - is it wrong to be utterly and completely jealous of a six year old's bedroom, toys, clothes, crowns, and especially her canopy bed?

Princesses are my style icons: Part one - Belle.

So, Disney is the best thing in the world right? (Apart from quite a lot of other stuff, but that's not the point.) I was huffing and puffing up my hideously long hill on the way home from school today, and in between singing Mulan songs (You must be swift as a coursing river...) I was pondering how cool it would be if Disney princesses were real, and they could be our lovely helpful big sister mentor people. And then I realised - they may not be real, but that doesn't stop us from taking inspiration from their awesome styles! So, this is Part One of an indefinitely looong series of princess style icon posts, and it is based on Belle! (By the way, I am so addicted to this video, I just thought I'd get you hooked too.)

So, I was going for Belle in her lovely blue dress, which I think is ever-so-slightly more wearable! I know its not exactly the same, but that's the beauty of it! The blue pinafore dress is from New Look, and I love the flower pattern on it, the blouse is by Alexander Wang, the bow is just a blue ribbon, so does it really matter where it came from, and the shoes (Gollygosh they are gorgy!) are from Office. I really like this outfit, and I have enjoyed creating this post, so look out for more in the future. Oh, and an update on my life - today was the First Ever day Of Year Ten Isn't That Scary, and it wasn't actually as bad as I was expecting (touch wood)! I was with a buddy in every lesson, which was my main worry, and other than some outright DULL lessons, I had quite a good time! let's hope it stays this good - but things might take a severe turn for the worse - I mean, I am kicking off Tuesday with DOUBLE PHYSICS.

Return to the machine.

It's back to school time. I write these words with sadness, because they carry a sad meaning. Yes, it is once again that time when your mum is executing a one woman mission to equip you with the most hideous flared school trousers the world has ever seen, and after seeing your new timetable it dawns on you just how utterly awful this school year will be. (I mean, double physics! Which genius came up with that joy?) But. It is not all bad. The return to the machine (school) gives us a chance to fantasise about our ideal school uniforms. I say fantasise, bcause I know that my school for one is like a dictatorship when it comes to uniform. I think the people in charge weren't allowed to wear what they wanted at school, so now they inflict an all-black uniform upon us! Anyway, if I had my way, this would be what I'd wear to school:
So, I'm sure you can see for yourself what this is, but anyhoo, I love the simple black pinafore with the crisp white shirt, and I think the vintage velvet blazer would complement it beautifully - which in turn sets off the emerald velvet bow very nicely. I really like the knee socks with miniature bow, and finally completing the outfit ae these gorgy shiny patent stompy things which I ACTUALLY OWN! Yippee! I'm so proud of them, and they may be the only things that will get me through the new year.

Talking of beautiful school-related things, I absolutely adored a post on Rookie which chanelled a kind of beautiful summer sadness - I can't sum it up very well, so here are some of the photos.

Do you see what I mean? I just think they are perfect. Anyway, I hope this post has cheered any of you up who are being forced back to the machine, and maybe you'll go out and spontaneously buy some gorgeous shoes, or a pinafore dress or something!

The introductory post.

<a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/10556509/?claim=aa3hx65ccz6">Follow my blog with Bloglovin</a
So, we find ourselves here, at the introduction. And, much like those parties, where you realise how uninteresting you are upon being introduced, I am not sure what to say. So, let's start the conventional way with hello, internet buddies, a warm and hearty hello! This, here, is my blog! Since this is the first post nothing much has really been happening on here, but stick with me! Right -about moi. I am:
  • An angsty teenager
  • A lover of vintage or DIY fashion
  • A staunch feminist!
  • Erm...a country girl? Does that count as a facet of my personality?
  • A cat person
  • A baker of slightly too-sticky cakes
  • A dedicated Rookie reader
  • I love art - can I call myself an artist? Why not?!
And..that's me! I look like this:
However, that's the best the best picture that has EVER been taken of me, so if in another picture my face is contorted oddly, or I'm grimacing arkwardly etc, then just remember that this photo is the exception, and I will never look like this on camera again. Hmm...what more, what more - oh yes, my cats look like this:
That one ^^ is Katie...
And that one ^^ is Hetty! Mi gusta el gatos buenos muchos! That was meant to be Spanish, but I've garbled it pretty badly, so I hope no snooping Spanish teachers are reading this. So, it's been a disjointed first post, but don't leave me just yet ol' gal - I hope someday I'll look back on this 'ere postie with a nostalgic twinkle in my eye, having soared high above these humble beginnings.Well, a girl can dream!
